Former Student Resources
Former Student Representatives
Former Student Representatives are available to answer questions about their experience at Texas A&M University's English Language Institute.
Become a Representative
The Former Student Representative Program is a way to form lasting relationships among the people who helped make our program what we are today. We want our prospective students to be able to contact some of our best former students for advice, or to receive comments about how ELI might have helped.
Expectations
-
Be listed on our web site as a Former Student Representative, with your email address, name (first name only), and country.
-
Receive and respond to emails from current or prospective students, giving advice or experiences as necessary.
-
Give ELI a new photo of yourself, along with an explanation of a positive experience (testimonial) you had while in ELI, or of how ELI helped you achieve something significant in your life.
-
Refer prospective students to our office for further follow-up.
-
Contribute to the ELI newsletter when you can.
-
Speak at ELI certificate dinners if possible.
-
Attend ELI former student reunions when possible.
-
Distribute our brochure or contact information to friends and family that may be interested.

We will send you an ELI Former Student Representative kit consisting of an ELI T-shirt, ELI brochures, ELI contact cards, ELI pins, a set of Frequently Asked Questions about ELI, and a paper weight or pencil holder and ELI Former Student Representative engraved on it to place on your desk.
-
You will be able to contact us at anytime if you have questions or concerns or want your name removed. You can also send prospective students to us so that I can respond to any difficult questions.
-
You will be invited (in the future) to attend special ELI functions to honor your work for us.
Fund for Excellence
The English Language Institute has enriched the lives of many international students since its beginning. To help us carry on the fine tradition inherent in our mission, the English Language Institute is establishing a Fund for Excellence to celebrate its twenty-fifth year of service to the international community. The Fund will give you the opportunity to share in ELI's successes and to make a difference in the lives of future ELI Aggies. Contributions to the Fund for Excellence from friends and former students of ELI will make it possible to provide:
- ELI scholarships for international students who need assistance to complete their language study
- Continued teaching excellence with special interest programs, distance-learning, outstanding visiting ESL professors
The ELI continues to grow and to advance in technology and excellence in teaching. These advances require financial support. Since the ELI is supported primarily by the tuition of students in the program, private gifts are important to the continuation of our progress. Former students and friends often want to help by providing financial support. If you choose to support ELI's efforts to establish this fund, you may contribute in several ways, including:
- A lump sum cash payment
- Multi-year commitments
- Charitable remainder trusts
- Bequests
- Corporate gifts
The fund will exist in perpetuity and will always bear the name designated by the donor. If you want to honor a former student, teacher or director, you may name that person as the honoree of your gift. Gifts may be made for general use or for a specific purpose. Gifts designated for a specific purpose, such as a chair for a visiting professor or a language laboratory, will be named for the donor. All contributors' names will be engraved on a plaque that is displayed in the reception area of the ELI.
