Welcome
Welcome to the English Language Institute (ELI) at Texas A&M University! We are delighted that you are interested in joining the community of language learners studying in the ELI. We offer you the opportunity to develop your language skills while you participate in university life on the campus of a world famous American university. You will meet people from all over the world as you study in our English classes, participate in the cultural and social events of the campus, and relax while using the campus recreational facilities. While in ELI, you will make new friends, explore new ideas, and participate in a wide range of activities designed to develop your English language abilities.
The ELI is an institute in the College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University and is located on the main campus in College Station, Texas. As such, the Institute provides its faculty with opportunities for collaboration and research in the field of second language learning. The role of the English Language Institute is to provide international students with an educational experience that develops their English language proficiency, heightens their cross cultural awareness, and enhances their professional growth and development. The atmosphere of the program is a welcoming and supportive one that seeks to treat each student with respect as it emphasizes to students that they are members of a community of learners. Faculty members are facilitators for learning. They provide students with the resources and opportunities to learn and practice English; they diagnose students' linguistic strengths and weaknesses; and they serve as mentors for students.
