Commission on English Language Program Accreditation
The English Language Institute, Texas A&M University has been accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA). CEA is a specialized agency for the accreditation of English language programs and institutions in the United States.
CEA is the first national accrediting agency to be formed for the singular purpose of accrediting programs in universities and colleges as well as independent English language schools that prepare non-English speaking international students to enter the higher education system in the United States or to pursue professional goals.
Programs and institutions that seek accreditation by CEA undergo a rigorous review. The English Language Institute, Texas A&M University was required to evaluate its compliance with the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions by submitting a self-study report to CEA. The extensive report included a response to each of the 52 standards, with each response including a narrative description, an evaluation, and supporting documentation. After submitting its self-study report to CEA, the English Language Institute, Texas A&M University participated in a 2-day on-site review by trained peer reviewers who sought to verify the report and determine whether the site appeared to meet the standards. The Commission's decision to grant accreditation for a 5-year period was made by the Commission on December 2002.
